Socialism: A Crash Course

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened.” – Norman Thomas, American socialist

There is not a lot of clarity these days, here in America. People seem to have lost their heads somewhere in the darkest regions of their own colons- or someone else’s. Like ostriches, stubbornly refusing to pull their heads out of the sand, the American populous is scared, stubborn and has no clue what to do in the face of all of these crises that have transpired in such a short span of time. The base, simple, and presumable answer to all of these problems is to, first and foremost: Blame the government. After all…everything is the government’s fault. This, epecially when that government is based on the idea that the people are supposed to keep it in check. The second “deer in the headlights” answer- is CHANGE! and fucklots of it! Since it was clearly a “Republican” who got us into the mess we are in, we ought to elect a Socialist in Democrat pinnings! Let’s completely deviate away from what is balanced and sensible- and go careening towards the other extreme. Yeah, that’ll show those dumb conservatives!

The problem with this simple line of thinking is that it is emotional and subjective. Johnny stole my cookie, so I am going to bite Johnny. Simply observing the behaviours of small children can give you a general idea of how primitive and reactionary this type of thought process is. If we adhere to this line of thought, we could assume from: A) George Bush was a shitty president. B) George Bush was a so-called “Republican.

that: C) Republicans are inherently bad, and if we elect another one, he will be just like George Bush.

A+B=C

That’s a brilliant deduction… if you are a third grader.

Letting emotions control our basic common sense is what will be the death of this nation- and perhaps was one thing that our founding fathers may have overlooked in regards to the human condition, while they were writing all of the crazy shit down that we now refer to as: The US Constitution.

For the very same reason that our government is in shambles, the allure of socialism is able to take hold. We are emotional beings. “If we don’t socialize medicine or give people handouts, then the Republican party is going to slay puppies, and people won’t have free prescription drugs. They’ll have to…*gulp* get a job and pay for them!!!!!” And, we all know that the government making us pay for stuff is inherently mean…So, because yer man Socialist Bob promised to buy everyone in America the same sparkly blue dildo, so they could all get off equally- he gets the advantage…because people think they’re “getting something out of it”. The reality, though, is much more mordant than that. Because, what Socialist Bob is actually doing- is telling all of these freeloaders to go fuck themselves.

So…for anyone who has ever empathized with Marx, or thought socialism could work (btw…neither it, nor communism does- I’ve been to Cuba…seen it in action), this rather piquant bitch is going to give ya’ll a crash course.

Obamahood, Obamahood, the Socialist Whore

He Steals from the Rich to Give to The Poor

The first thing that needs to be known about socialism is that it’s goal is equality, or rather egalitarianism. Another political -ism…which, like most, seems to suggest some sort of idealism (ha…there’s another one!) You see also- communism, anarchism… But, you don’t see -ism in Democracy. Not really relevant or a useful point. I just felt the need to point that out.

Egalitarianism is a nice word for a nice suggestion that, like most other -ism’s,  will sadly never work. If you want Egalitarianism- you will have to go to Disney World to get it. Out in the real world- nobody is equal. That fact seems to outrage some people as they get older and stop pooping their pants- and believing in socialism becomes a way to “make it go away”. So…socialists are kind of at Disney World alll the time.

The most basic idea in Socialism, is that people should be equal, and the government should be instrumental in making it that way. Or, for those of you who like it laid down more blatantly: a bunch of oligarchs and other nasties think that people are generally too stupid to govern themselves. And, while the United States is a perfect example of that, right now- it is only because of the ever-growing socialist factions and laws in our nation. The beauty of socialism for lazy types is that you don’t HAVE to think for yourself. The government does it ALLLL for you. And, while this is something that people ought to be afraid of, they aren’t. Most Americans must have been balling up spit wads, sleeping, or picking their noses when their History teacher made mention of the fact that America was created based on the principle that large governments are dangerous instruments of oppression. Yeah…

Socialists are a broad-ranging, rowdy bunch of partiers.

These Men Really Knew How To Shake Dat Ass!!

These Men Really Knew How To Shake Dat Ass!!

Their beliefs have a range, and go from wanting to effect complete government control over things ranging from things we already subsidize, like electricity and farming, to things traditionally held as private industries a la banking, military contracting, etc., to state control of capital- within the bounds of a pseudo-capitalist market economy…which…after the bailout is essentially what we’re playing at, here in America Inc.,

This socialist business, as a theory is a relatively new idea. You can see examples of it being tested in current day China, Cuba, and Venezuela. You may say…now Jessica, China is (technically) a communist nation. And, to that I would say- you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! But, you see…socialism is a go-between. Ol’ Marx told in his manifesto that Socialism was the transitional phase between Capitalism and Communism. This is precisely what’s happening in Venezuela. Venezuelan socialism holds an extra special place in my heart, as my husband is from Venezuela- and his family has to put up with the non-sensical ravings, irrational and corrupt behaviors, and ever-growing oppression that now exists in their once relatively democratic nation (lets say…democratic for South America…). Chavez is a raving lunatic- put up in office by the same dangling carrot that now attracts half of all voting Americans.

Many people are very hungry for this carrot. But, it is an inherently un-American carrot…the kind whose roots do not deserve to stretch themselves through the soil of America. For, surely, we will end up exactly how our founding fathers told us not to: giving into the whims of dependency and laziness. Socialism did not exist when the constitution was written-but, it is so blitheringly obvious that Socialism and Class Rule (which, is unfortunately what Socialism eventually becomes) were the exact things that they wrote the constitution and fought bloody battles to protect us against.

Can we please consider for a moment that Obama is NOT going to effect a positive change in our nation? That, whilst he is the antithesis of George Bush, they are also one in the same- both destructive, un-American forces concerned with their own rule?

I guess it all boils down to a question of desires.

  • It might be fascist corporations ,not socialists we should be concerned with.
This book will illuminate any readers. It’s well documented and footnoted and you wouldn’t believe what’s in it.
Remember this- all the Nazis didn’t die after World War II. You deal with some of thier corporations every day.

  • While this is interesting (I’m going on Amazon reviews here, so give me a bit of a break)…I think it’s a bit off kilter. See… Jews control a lot of our media and a good bit of our economy, which, is fine by me. I like jewish people. That, and anyone who thinks 9-11 was a government plot is a complete nitwit. I’ve explored that venue…there’s nothing there but people trying to stir the shit-pot cause they don’t like the neo-con POS they elected.

I might go ahead and say that I grew up in the skinhead scene (not the racist one…the real one), and I know, from getting in fights with neo-nazis and having to deal with their crews, how they operate, how they think, I know about their religious beliefs and how they are organized (which, they aren’t THAT organized…lol) . There ARE people out there who want a race war- but, I think from the standpoint of neo-nazism…that’s as far as it goes in this nation… A pack of rednecks and white supremacists getting in fights with non-racist skinheads, and zeig hailing in front of dumb 3rd reich flags in their living rooms for myspace photos.

As for facists in our government and business sector, well…that’s blitheringly obvious, my friend. I don’t think that drawing the association between them, and Hitler is necessary to make the situation a dire one that needs to be handled. It already is. And, the guy who wrote this book already loses according to Godwin’s Law. I think we all recognize that there are facists and racists in the world. But, I think mostly, we need to grow up and accept it as a fact, instead of throwing ol’ Hitler’s name around everytime we don’t like something.

Furthermore- it is socialism…100% pure socialism that has been trickling into the American system for well over a century that is causing these problems. I am QUITE sure of it. And, what you would do well to remember, is that while Hitler was an anti-semite and a rabid nationalist, he WAS a socialist as well ( Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei ) I know it’s in German, but do you see “national socialist” anywhere in there? He, personally wasn’t terribly keen on ramping up socialism in Germany- but, he let his comrades do it for him. The Nazi party is was a socialist one. Period.

I know that people want to blame our mess on “facism” and “the Bush Administration”. And, they should, because all of those neo-cons are oligarchs who want socialism. And, it looks as though they are going to get their wish. Both sides of this election are deeply entrenched in neo-conservative values. They want a ruling class, my friend, and through socialism, they know they can get that. I hope it makes all of those hippies wearing Che shirts feel warm and fuzzy inside.

  • wow.Shit, there is still hope, when people write articles like yourself. The poster featuring the fathers of marxism is from the Slovak communist website. The first 21 years of my life were spent there. Communism, been there done that. Or should I say I was born into that crap. My dad spent 6 years in uranium mines for nothing. When the Russian tanks paid us a visit in 1968, I got the shit out of there and eventually ended up here. The greatest country of the world. Each and every person who will vote for the “One” should spend some time in Cuba or Venezuela, or even better North Korea, before he even approaches the freeking voting booth. I don’t want to pollute your space here, but thank you for your insight. I had also a good time reading your comments on ‘Keep the nigger out of office “cracker shit. You can’t win with these people. Don’t forget to adjust the scope on your gun after November. Just kidding.

  • Milan,

I completely hear you, man. You are certainly not polluting anything, and are welcome to post and make as many comments as you like.
I grew up here, and didn’t ever have the opportunity to see communism in action until recently. As a kid, I was very into the idealisms of liberal politics. I thought I had a pretty orderly idea of how the world should work, and what level of fairness should be injected into society. As I got older, I realized that this probably wasn’t the answer (all this in the midst of the Bush administration, no less) and developed a more conservative outlook.
But, it was not until I went to Cuba…. that I saw the parallels, and I realized just how oppressive, inhuman and bizzare a communist system was. And, not only that- but, the remnants of Communism are those of chaos, destruction, and genocide (in other words, they just finish the job that Communism set out to achieve).
When you step foot in a socialist or communist nation- you can feel it. It’s just different. It smells different, looks different, everything…When I got back to America (after having had my passport, cash, and bank card stolen form me in Cuba), I literally kissed the ground at the Atlanta Airport…because, I realized how great this country really is. And, I’m glad that people can take shelter here, from oppressive governments and see it, too.
I agree- the people here need to see what it is they are voting for first hand…because they just don’t “get it”.
As for me being a racist cracker…to hell with it. Ha. Obama is untouchable, dude. Only second to god.
My guns already have scopes on them :P And, sadly- a pvc tube that I will have to hide them in, if this retard gets elected and re-enacts the Assault Weapons Ban….:/
I hope the US is smart about this.
By the way- I knew a Bulgarian named Milan. Is must be a popular name in Eastern Europe?

  • When you consider Cuba you also have to consider the crippling embargo we have had on them.

I’m not a fan of Castro by any means, but if you study their leadership before Castro it was not good. The USA actually backed dictator Fulgencio Batista who had suspended freedom of speech. He was terribly oppressive.

It’s a shame. The USA actually governed Cuba from 1898-1902 and then handed it over so they could be independent. Batista led his coup in 1933 and they have struggled since.

I think Fidel had good intentions, but the power went to his head. Combine this with our embargo and you have a very sad situation and it would be sad whether it was a capitalist, socialist or communist- any economic system.

If you have pictures of your trip you should post them.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  • Also, a minor point. Socialism is an economic system. You could have a socialistic democracy- for example. The two are not mutually exclusive. There is a social democratic party in Sweden- our ally. And there are many other examples of this. Socialism, like capitalism is an organic thing. They are both theories that are being played out right now. There is no concrete, exact definition of either, because you can set them up in degrees. For example, some would say the USA is not fully a capitalistic country because of Social Security or the state owned postal service. So in a sense, some socialism is already here.

I like your blog- I’m going to keep coming back.

    Cheers,

    Tom

  • Tom,

I know exactly what you mean. I am interested in seeing the country preserved as a capitalist nation with a true free-market, with a government who’s only intervention should be to protect the market from abuses and power grabs. I don’t really believe in social security or welfare, for the most part. (I would give concessions to single mothers, the disabled, and the elderly. That’s where the line gets drawn, however.) The postal service, simply makes sense though. lol. Have you ever tried to send something to a country with an inefficent post?

I am probably one of a few people who wants a complete overhaul done in the fed, and desires to shred income taxes and other things. Or, at the very least to take the crookery out of our tax system, so it is more clear to Americans just how much of their money is going to the government each year.

Countries like Sweden can function with social democracy because they are a pretty homogenous bunch, with similar values, goals, and nearly none are jobless. There isn’t a lot of leeching of the system going on. Being a smaller nation, they can afford to take care of their own, and manage the system without any real huge fear of abuse. I am not saying some vestiges of socialism do not work, but I do not see their application as useful or constitutional in this nation, as large as it is, and giving considerations to the principles which it was founded upon.

Thank you for checking my blog out. I read a bit of yours. Read that you used to be in a punk/hardcore band. Very nice. I grew up in that scene. Good to see some fellow scenesters representing.

    Cheers,

    Jess
